Inventory of the ethnographic collection

The collection of around 2,500 objects kept in the Mission OneWorld Centre is mainly from the Huon Gulf region of Papua New Guinea, where the mission work took place in the first years from 1886 to 1930. It is the most comprehensive collection worldwide for this cultural area. It is unique because it represents the holistic nature of the Melanesian social order. There are also artifacts from other parts of Papua New Guinea such as from the highlands or from the Sepik river area. The comprehensive inventory taking is almost complete.
